The client

Target Group are a leading and long standing servicing and software provider to the financial sector. Although their headquarters are based in the UK, they hold offices in both Australia and New Zealand, encapsulating their focus as a truly global business with a respected sense of tradition.

The brief

Core was approached with a view to bringing the Target Group website inline with modern thinking and practises in terms of their digital presence. This involved the building of a new website, which required a flexible and custom-built content management system (CMS) that could accommodate various methods of content delivery. Target had previously been using Umbraco as a CMS and felt they needed a more reliable and flexible solution in order to move forward. In addition to this, Target were also very interested in how Core could assist in their SEO needs and how they could actively enhance their online reputation.

The response

When considering the technological aspects and functions of a new site we are building, it is vital to consider the particular needs of the client. The Target site required a fresh reinvigoration to it and alignment with all of the modern techniques it was lacking in its original site. This led us, in coordination with the creative agency Girl & Boy Studio who provided design work for the project, to implement a simple and clear navigation to the site with a structured hierarchy. This removed the clutter of unnecessary pages which can cause the site to appear clunky and impose a negative effect on user engagement.

A primary requirement of the new site was that it needed to be responsive and provide excellent user engagement to mobile visitors. This consideration is also vital in terms of future site performance, with the trend certainly to reward sites who cater for their mobile visitors with greater online authority.

When looking at the technology we are to use on our websites, we must first consider the functions of the site itself. For Target, there was a desire to be more flexible in how they served content on their site and their ability to edit such content. This requirement led us to the creation of a bespoke CMS, with a wide range of admin access, using Ruby on Rails technology.

As part of our status as a holistic digital agency, we are also keen to lend our professional services to our client post-launch, ensuring their site is properly positioned and promoted for maximum engagement. This for Target involved thorough and thoughtful keyword research and site architecture planning/optimisation e.g. page titles, meta descriptions etc. Ongoing work also includes a focused linkbuilding campaign, targeting the right kind of links for Target, and in depth monthly reporting.

This exemplifies our attitude as an agency, that of ongoing and honest conversations with our clients and adapting to their individual wants and needs.

Core helped us develop and build our new website - throughout the process their approach was well-organised, collaborative and their expertise shone through. We have been very impressed with the results and how the website has performed since launch.
