MSA Focus have been providing broadcast management solutions to their global list of clients since 1988, in the process earning a well valued reputation in the community. During this time the company has evolved to meet the needs of an ever changing broadcast standard, most recently with the popularity of Video On Demand (VOD) systems

The brief

Although MSA Focus and its technology has indeed successfully evolved throughout the years to remain at the peak of their field, it was felt that their former website had some time ago fallen behind. The standard of their website did not reflect their position of status, certainly among competitors, and was not befitting of the level of skill and quality shown in their own technological solutions.

The response

From a visual design perspective, efforts were made immediately to move away from the templated feel of the old site. Stock photography and graphical elements were replaced with images of the studio and professional headshots, providing a sense of freshness and energy to the site while helping to form a company personality for users.

The site refresh also allowed for an appraisal of current content on the site and its structure, which was found to be inhibiting its performance from a search engine perspective. The new site was built using Wordpress as the content management system (CMS) of choice, providing an easy-to-use customisable editing facility for content.

Discussions with the client about their ‘wishlist’ for the site and, crucially, what users might want/expect, brought about the creation of such sections as the ‘Glossary’ and ‘Case Studies’. These sections filled a gap in user engagement which was previously present and would add a further dimension to visitor interaction with the site. In addition to this, the ‘About Us’ section was extended, further emphasising the company’s experience and sense of unique personality.

Navigation on the site was kept as clean and intuitive as possible, so as to not confuse users, while certain items such as ‘Solutions’ triggered a larger drop down menu accompanied by graphical cues. All of this was built with a flexibility of device type in mind, ensuring the site was fully optimised and tested across a range of screen sizes prior to launch.
