Web Developer

We're looking for a web developer to join our Cardiff based team.

You'll be as comfortable working on pixel perfect front-ends as you are working on setting up content management systems and working with frameworks.

We're happy to receive applications from a range of experience levels but you must be able to evidence similar commercial work and have an ability to work to high standards as part of a technical team.

Introduction

We are a creative web design and development company based in Cardiff Bay with a leaning towards JavaScript, LEMP and Ruby based web development. The day-to-day tools/frameworks we use include ES6/JavaScript, React, Next.js, Wordpress (mainly Roots.io framework), Foundation, Bootstrap and Ruby/Ruby on Rails.

We have been in business for just over 20 years and our clients include a broad range of businesses and organisations, from small independent traders to recognised brands. We have mainly operated remotely since March 2020. However, we're now gradually returning to our studio in Cardiff Bay, offering a hybrid work model to give our team added flexibility and improved work-life balance.

We're looking for a web developer that understands the importance of good engineering solutions, enjoys a variety of work across a range of technologies, takes pride in what they build and enjoys being a part of a hard working team. You'll play an active role in the design and development of our client's websites and other web-based applications and systems we design, build and maintain.

Essentials for the role include:

  • front and back-end web development experience (commercial projects)
  • version control using Git based workflows
  • good communication and interpersonal skills
  • attention to detail.

Non-essential skills (but must have at least a keen interest in developing):

  • cloud server/infrastructure setup and maintenance (we host almost all of the work we produce)
  • advanced Wordpress/plugin development (some experience of the Roots.io framework would be ideal)
  • JAM stack experience (client and server)
  • Ruby/RoR.

  • PHP (Wordpress / Roots.io framework)

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Participating in the planning, design, development and deployment of new websites and web applications.
  • Development of new features/enhancements/upgrades to a stock of previously built websites/web applications.
  • Creating clean, maintainable and well tested code.
  • Excellent debugging and problem solving skills.
  • A strong command of HTML, Javascript and Sass/CSS.
  • An understanding of database theory with experience of MySQL, Postgres experience desirable. Any experience of NoSQL alternatives is a bonus!
  • Good understanding of the entire web development process, including design, testing, build, deployment and maintenance.

Remuneration

A competitive salary package will be based on ability and experience.
