Founded in 2018, Food Sense Wales aims to influence and make an impact on how food is produced and consumed in Wales. We were approached to work with the Food Sense Wales team to develop a more consistent brand identity and to represent their mission and values more clearly, in both digital and non-digital environments.

A fresh approach

Food Sense Wales had a logo and a simple ‘one-page’ website that was created when the organisation got underway in 2018. Fast forward to 2021 and it was decided that a fresh approach to the brand identity was required to help them stand out and to become more widely recognised.

We started the process by running a series of workshops, helping us all to get a deeper understanding of the perception of the brand, its position in the market, core audiences and organisational goals.

Proudly Welsh

Food Sense Wales were looking for a strong and vibrant brand identity to successfully communicate their vision and aims. They wanted it to be unmistakably Welsh and to represent the organisation’s core values including sustainability in food and farming.

To achieve this we wanted to incorporate symbolism for the sun, sea and land into the design and to use a natural colour palette. A further requirement was that the brand mark had to be bilingual, with Welsh and English given equal weighting.

Organic identity

With the intention of maintaining an unmistakably Welsh identity throughout the branding, we used an organic geographical outline of Wales as a supporting graphic element, giving us an immediately recognisable shape to carry through the brand identity. We developed a natural colour palette of earthy tones to compliment the photography they had commissioned and created bespoke icons to represent each of their values.

Sustainable site

After ensuring that the brand worked across both digital and printed materials, we designed and developed a new website to bring everything to life.

With a strong emphasis on ease of use and engaging content (as well as a strong brand identity), the new website aims to reach out to the various audiences important to the Food Sense Wales mission, such as communities, local action organisations, policymakers and government.

“We wanted to create a fresh identity for our brand along with an easy to navigate site that would showcase the work of Food Sense Wales - and CORE delivered exactly that. The new brand looks great; the website is easy to maintain and we’re really pleased with the look and feel that the team have created for us. We’re now excited to seeing the brand develop further as the work of Food Sense Wales continues to grow.”
